How It All Began

In 2012, Shoosha set out to create skincare so safe that even the youngest and most vulnerable babies could use it without worry. That’s why we chose the USDA Organic standard — the strictest in the world, usually reserved for food.

We believed that combining safety with efficacy could transform baby skincare. But making truly organic products — especially organic baby lotions — is notoriously difficult.

The Long Road to Organic Lotion

Lotions sound simple, but water-based organic lotions are one of the hardest products to make. Most brands avoid them, either sticking with heavy balms (which are easier to preserve but too greasy for babies) or leaning on looser standards that allow some synthetics.

We refused to compromise. Our journey looked like this:

• Early years: We used organic alcohol. It preserved well but was drying and left an odor. If you see old Amazon reviews mentioning this, they’re probably from that stage.
• Next step: We tried a fruit-based antimicrobial system that lowered the lotion’s pH so bacteria couldn’t survive. It was effective but slow and expensive to produce, which would have made our business unsustainable.
• 2021 breakthrough: By adjusting the ratio of natural ingredients, we created a formula that naturally suppressed bacteria growth. The result: a lotion that’s light, nourishing, and fully USDA Certified Organic.

Two Options for Two Needs

Because every family is different, today we offer two versions of our organic baby lotion:

• French Lavender Lotion — sensorially satisfying, with real lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) oil that does double duty. At low levels (0.2–0.5%), lavender doesn’t just smell beautiful — it’s known to calm the skin, reduce redness, and support balance.
• Fragrance-Free Baby Lotion — for newborns and the most sensitive users. Babies rely on smell to bond with their parents, so this version keeps things pure and unobtrusive — just nourishment, nothing extra.

Both versions are USDA Certified Organic. And now, with EWG VERIFIED™, our French Lavender Lotion goes even further — meeting one of the world’s toughest benchmarks for ingredient safety and transparency, and standing proudly within a community of brands committed to the same standard.
