A skincare guide to the first 12 months - 4 of 5
Your baby is getting more active and alert, and increased mobility may lead to more exposure to dirt, sweat, allergens, and sun. Change your skincare routine accordingly.
Phase 4: Active Explorer (6 to 9 months)
Welcome to the next level. Your baby is getting more active and alert, and increased mobility may lead to more exposure to dirt, sweat, and potential allergens. Teething may cause drooling and irritation around the mouth and chin.
Skincare Guide:
- Bathing Routine:Â Now you can give baby bath as needed using a gentle baby wash!
- Moisturization:Â Continue to apply baby lotion, and you could also consider applying a thicker baby cream to areas prone to dryness.
- Drool Rash Management: Keep a dry and neat environment around the chin and mouth to prevent drool rash. Use a gentle cloth to meticulously wipe the drool and apply a thin layer of baby-friendly barrier cream. Previously, petroleum jelly was the preferred choice. Nowadays, natural choices like organic nipple balm consisting of shea butter and sea buckthorn oil are suggested. These are not only a safer alternative but also deliver improved anti-inflammatory benefits!
- Protective Clothing:Â Dress infants in comfortable, breathable clothing to prevent overheating and minimize friction on the skin during crawling and exploration.
- Sun Protection:Â Make sure to protect your baby from the sun by staying in the shade and putting on sunscreen and protective clothes. Choose baby sunscreen with zinc oxide to shield against UVA and UVB rays without irritating the skin. Use non-nano zinc oxide for extra safety.
- Scented Products:Â Now you can use products with natural scents for your baby's skin care routine. Avoid artificial fragrances and chemicals, but natural scents like lavender and chamomile can help calm infants. Babies rely less on smell to find parents as they grow, so you can use other senses to bond with them.
